Note Cards #2

It's time for another CAS Challenge at The Outlawz! This weeks challenge is "Anything Goes CAS". I mentioned earlier this week, that I'm working on building my supply of thank you's to keep on hand. This card is being added to that collection! I kept it pretty flat, so that it would be easier to mail too. I'm planning to make a few more of these in different colors, it's a quick & easy to reproduce card :)

If you are looking for some fun, why don't you check out The Outlawz? It's a fabulous, supportive & positive challenge site, with new challenges EVERY day of the week.

Have a fabulous day!

My Blingy Valentine

(Click on picture to see details)

Hi, thanks for stopping by today. I woke up this morning ready to start stamping :) Most of the products I've used are from the Spring Mini. Have you seen it yet? If not, let me know, I'd be happy to drop one in the mail for you :)

I started by stamping my tree image from the stamp set Valentine defined in Basic Black ink. I then punched out 3 hearts from Glimmer Paper using the Two Step Owl Punch. I adhered them to my tree using my Two Way Glue Pen. Next, I stamped the sentiment (also from Valentine Defined) and punched another glimmery heart. The sentiment was punched with the Modern Label Punch (I shortened the length a bit). Now, my focal image is done!!!

To finish off the design, I added a strip of First Edition dsp, a Basic Black strip punch using the Scallop Border Punch and a big Real Red Satin bow...bows make me happy :)

I was inspired today by Sketch Saturday.

Note cards

TGIF Friends! I usually post some Family Time fun on Fridays, however, my hard drive bit the dust last night...luckily we have been prepared and backed up all of our photos and files...that doesn't really help me today though. I will catch you up when I'm fully up and running again!!!

I've said it before, I'm awful with sending out cards! I hoard them and even when I do get them in the mail, they are usually late. I AM trying! I like the idea of having note cards on hand, if I stock up, maybe I'll actually be able to grab one and go!!! Thank you card seem to be the most needed, so I'm working on building my stock.

This card was inspired by the FTL125 sketch. I started with my card base (3 1/2 x 5) and used some scraps of my Springtime Vintage dsp. Next, I added sticky strip and crinkled up some crochet lace. I punched a hole on the left side and finished off my ribbon treatment with an antique brad. The last thing I needed to do was add my Thank You sentiment, which was stamped in Crumb Cake ink and punched out with the Modern Label Punch. I felt the label was a bit to large so I trimmed it down a bit to fit my sentiment better!!

I'll have more note cards to share with you on Sunday. Hopefully I'll be back before then though!!!

Hello! Thanks for coming by today!!! I have a CAS card to share with you...inspired by CASE Study & the Playdate Cafe Color Splash Challenge. I pulled out some colors that I haven't used in quite some time: Basic Gray & Elegant Eggplant!! It's hard to believe that at a time, Elegant Eggplant was my favorite color. I honestly don't think I've used it for close to a year.

Here I used my Eastern Blooms stamp set; stamped, inked & trimmed the flowers out and then added pearls to the centers. My sentiment is from Word Play, a set that is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, I find the words of encouragement so inspiring!!! This card would be perfect for a college graduate, don't you think!?

Don't forget...It's Sale-a-bration, SU!'s biggest promotion of the YEAR!!!

Bringing Smiles!

This image brings a huge smile to my face. It reminds me of being a little girl, running in my Easter dress without a care in the world! It also reminds me of my Holly Hobby doll, anyone else have a big Holly Hobby doll back in the mid-70's? Gosh, I loved her :)

Know what else I'm loving? The look of the silhouette images that are so popular right now! They seem to popping up everywhere. What about the cute little Rosette up in the corner? I used my Pretty in Pink marker to color that :) So many fun and exciting products in the Spring Mini Catalog!!!

I was inspired by a set my friend Jen made and posted on Outlawz and the Papertake Sketch #53.

Remember When...

Flourishes are so popular right now. They are found as images in stamp sets, accents on sentiments & in patterned paper. My card today was inspired by the SCS CAS103 challenge, to use flourishes. I immediated thought of the Elegant Soiree dsp by Stampin' Up! and as I looked through my supplies I came across the "Remember When" sentiment from Word Play. I knew that the two would be perfect. The paper and stamp together pack quite a punch, so I just added some tiny pearls, ribbon and some inking to finish this card off!!!

Don't forget...SAB starts tomorrow!!!!

Stamp: Word Play
Ink: Early Espresso
Paper: Very Vanilla, Elegant Soiree dsp

Family Time Friday

Happy Friday!

As I sit and think about what has been going on here in the Merritt household, I'm thinking...a whole lot of nothing! With the weather here we've been pretty much home bound!! As I've described this week throughout my blog posts, the kids only went to school 1 day this week!!

I don't think I've ever shared with you my stamping space and since it got a bit of a makeover this week, this is the perfect time to share it.
This here is my work space, as if you are in the middle of the room and looking at my desk. I am trying to get the supplies I use most often at my fingertips...less up and down, more productive work time.

To the left, you will see my scissors and punches (old style), this is actually meant for file folders, but works perfectly for punches. It also has a drawer on the bottom where I keep my markers, blender pens, aquapainter, bone folder, etc!!!

My desk has a large pull out drawer (meant for your computer keyboard) however, I use it to store my grid paper, paper cutter and stampin' scrub!! Everything must have a place to go away, I don't like to leave everything out. My stamp room is attached to my bedroom so I do try to always keep it neat and tidy! There are also two side drawers that hold my pearls, rhinestones, rub-on, adhesive, dimensional, etc.

The corner white shelf used to be in the basement holding the boys toys, but it now holds my stamps, some ribbon, more punches, cardstock & dsp. This was key in my reorganization!!! I really wanted my stamps & paper out of the closet...I want to be able to SEE what I have.

Behind me is that FAB wall unit!!! I holds ALL of my ink, more ribbon, embossing powers, reinkers, clear blocks, buttons....It is my favorite thing in the room, it saves space by being on the wall and it keeps everything ORGANIZED!!! I love it. I'm sad to say, the company I bought it from is no longer in business, I'm sure you can find something similar out there on the web :)

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into my stamping room! Maybe I'll get some more pics when it's all finished.

Do you have any fabulous storage ideas? I'd love if you shared them with me :)

Just friends

Is it possible for a Thursday to feel like a Monday and a Friday all at the same time? LOL, maybe I'm loosing it!! But, my kids just went to school for the first time this week and tomorrow is pretty much a given for a snow, it's a Monday & a Friday :) Are you with me? Ok, heehee, moving on...

I'm loving this card. Just Believe is one of those sets that I don't think I'll EVER tire of. The images & sentiments are beautiful, versatile and absolutely timeless! This is a classic CAS design. I love how the black and white pop off of the Pear Pizazz background! To give the whole card a bit of more interest & texture, I heat embossed the stems and used the Square Lattice Texture folder on a piece of Pear Pizazz.

I was inspired today by the CASE Study challenge & Cute Card Thursday 1,2,3 challenge: 1 button, 2 strips of ribbon, three stems :)

Thanks for coming by!! Maureen

I made this for a friends 40th, of course, I haven't put it in the's the thought that counts, right? Happy belated b-day Catherine :)

Outlawz CAS Challnge!!!

Yippee! The first CAS Challenge at Outlawz went live only minutes ago!!! The challenge is to:

Use lots of white space (doesn't actually have to be white)
Use the color red
Use only 1 embellishment

The hardest part about these rules was that I was so tempted to add a pearl or rhinestone...but ribbon won out and that was my 1 embellie!!

Why don't you play along with on the Outlawz blinkie on my side bar.

Flamingo Love - Two Ways

Happy LONG weekend to you all! I started out the day with horrible mouth pain from my recent dentist appt, ouch...I took my first dosage of motrin before even brewing my coffee, went grocery shopping the morning before snow is due, so you know what that is like!!! Then, it was putting everything away, making lunches, etc...So, while no one was looking I escaped to my stamp room and miraculously, I'm feeling better. It's funny how that happens ;)

I made the card above using CAS FTL123. I loved the sketch and knew immediately that I'd be using my beloved flamingo stamp!!! I kept it very simple, photographed it and edited it. While I started my blog post, I thought maybe it needed just a little something I went back to my stamproom to give this card some more love! Here is the card stepped up a bit. I thought it would be fun to share both versions.

(Click on the card for a better look).

With just the addition of some paper piercing and a rhinestone, I think the card looks so much better!!! What do you think, which one do you like better?

Family Time Friday

I hope you have had a lovely week. I have to say, I'm thrilled it is Friday and a 3 day weekend...even BETTER!

This year I am trying something new for my scrapbooks. I have become overwhelmed with the thought of scrapping everything, have fallen WAY behind and quite honestly, I'm loving cards right now. It's so hard to switch gears, kwim? So, this year I am attempting to take a Picture-A-Day and journal our life. Yes, this sounds a bit crazy, but I think it's doable! I'm going to be doing it digitally and instead of scrapping the only the special days and fab pics, I am going to be capturing our life, the little every day things that will go overlooked and forgotten within a year, 2 years or maybe even next month.

Today I thought I'd share a few of the pictures I've taken so far this year...

This first picture is a project Ethan did in school when I was visiting his class to do centers. I thought he did a fabulous job and was amazed that his teacher drew the worksheet herself. Although sometimes I am running out of the Kindergarten class with my hair on fire, or just a massive headache, I do love that I am able to be a part of Ethan's class every week!

This is a scene you will often see in our house...boys in blankets playing the ds. Look at Conner's knuckles! Ugh, that boy has some DRY hands, he refuses to use lotion...I don't get it! This is not the best picture or the most creative, however it is our LIFE!

This was just taken on Wednesday morning. All of the boys had a snow day and we were taking the morning slow, I looked out the back windows and saw this stunning sunrise!
Can you say, WOW!

Do you have any goals or a plan of attack when it comes to your scrapbooking?

Word Play

So, I have to apologize. I was feeling really lazy yesterday and I never got around to posting here. I had everyone home due to snow and I just didn't feel like doing ANYTHING, not even stamping (gasp)! I chilled out most of the day and feel rejuvenated and ready to stamp!!! With some free time this afternoon I made a card using the stamp set "Word Play"". I love making cards when your sentiment is the focal point, and Word Play is the perfect set to do this with! "Imagine the Possibilities" is fitting for so many occasions and great to have in your stash, just in case :) I went with a soft, feminine feel, using Springtime Vintage dsp, lace and a strip of pearls. I'm not usually so girlie but I'm loving the look!

I used the sketch from this weeks ABC Challenge, thanks for the inspiration!

Someone is in love...

and I think that someone is me :) I'm in love with the Two-Step Owl Punch. How darn cute are these two? I wish I had put the boy owl on the right though and the girl on the left, so the boy would be smitten with the girl :)

CAS, A Day in the Snow

Good morning! Today is Monday which means the new CAS Challenge posted over at SCS. This weeks challenge is to be inspired by "A Day in the Snow". Here's my card...Today I made another white on white card, I'm loving this look lately! To balance out all of the white, I gave the card a bit of pizazz by adding pops of Baja Blue and a shimmer brad. Isn't it just gorgeous?

I've started this week out running, to much to do, too little time. Keeping this entry short...have a great day :) I'll be back later to add my supply list! See ya!

Stampin Up! Grid Paper

There are a few items in my stamproom that I could not live without, one of them...Stampin' Up! Grid Paper. I know, it seems like a funny item to be attached to, but it serves more purposes than JUST covering your work surface!!! Why do I love it so?
  • It's the perfect tool to help you line up your layers & ribbon. I lay my card base on my grid paper so that it is straight and lined up with the grids. As I am attaching my layers & ribbon, I am sure to get it perfectly straight and centered each and every time!
  • Sentiments...sometimes those buggers are difficult to line up. There is nothing worse than finishing a card and going to stamp your sentiment and having it come out crooked (you know what I'm talking about don't you!). I use my grid paper to make sure this never happens. The pictures below will help you see what I mean!
Step 1:
Ink your sentiment and line the upper part of your block with the lines on the grid paper.

Here is your stamped image, it's not too bad!
However, notice the "T" is a bit higher on the line than the "U"
We can fix this!

Step 2:
Ink and line up your stamp again, but this time tilt the stamp so that the "U" is higher on your line than the "T".

This is your result.
The top is your first result and the bottom is your second! Cool, right!
Now when you stamp on your project you know EXACTLY where & how to stamp your sentiment!!!

The uses for Grid Paper are endless! Jot down notes, measurements, color combos... I'd love for you to share some ways you use Stampin' Up! Grid Paper. If you haven't tried it yet, you must!! For only $9.95 for 100 sheets it sure does goes a long way. It will save you time and trouble!! Click here to purchase Grid Paper and other supplies from my online store.

It's Party Time!

It's the weekend, let's party!!! I hope you have some fun plans. The boys have a full weekend of football watching to do, which means I have a full weekend of stamping...can you see why it's a party?!?!!!
How sweet is this card?! Love those balloons & the argyle paper. This is a perfect card for a little boys birthday. I used the sketch from "Sketch Saturday" and the theme of "A Card for a Child" from One Stop Craft Challenge. What fun, thanks for the inspiration girls :)

Family Time Friday

We got snow :) Not much at this point but enough for a snow day!!! I wanted to take the roping off of the front porch before it snowed, oh well, looks like we are going to be stuck with it for a while!
The kids have had a wonderfully relaxing morning, watching tv and playing with their Beyblades & their ds games!! They were super excited when I told them that there was no school today! Here they are snuggling on the couch together, Conner helping Ethan play his Pokemon game.

Ethan helped me throw together a Vegetarian Chili that's cooking in the crockpot as we speak. It's the perfect day for chili and cornbread, yum! I'm hoping to get the kids to agree to a movie later today. They got "Where the Wild Things Are" for Christmas and I really want to see it (more than they do I think!).

That's about all that is going on here in the Merritt house! I hope you are having a fabulous day, stay warm :)
