Is it Spring yet?

I'm seriously wishing for Spring here. We had yet another icy mix and a delayed opening this morning! It's just plain old dark and dreary, I would love to jump back into bed and go take a nice long nap...maybe until Spring really does get here ;)
I usually I post "Family Time Friday" today, however, I have good news to share {drum roll}... I made it through the first round at SCS CAS Design Team search and am now a semi-finalist :) Yippee! I have to admit, I was a bit nervous, the competition is REALLY talented. I got right to work on the next challenge: a Color Combo...Pink, Kraft, Brown & White/Vanilla.
Since I'm so craving Spring, I went with a Spring theme. You know what I love most about this card? I used tons of dies, punches, an embossing folder & embellies and it is STILL Clean & Simple. Some people get the impression that a CAS card has to take 10 minutes using as few products as possible. This is definitely NOT the case and this card is the perfect example of that!!! CAS design has one focal point, lots of "white" space and is uncluttered...not drab & boring.
Wish me luck in the next round, we find out the finalists on Sunday...fingers crossed (again).

Fun with The Play Date Cafe

Looking for some inspiration this morning, I came across this really fun color combo at The Play Date Cafe! It's way out of my comfort zone, but that's what I was looking for...something to push me to my limits, it's a challenge, right? Wow, what a blast and such a fun way to start my day.
I made this fun landscape using sponge daubers with Old Olive and Tempting Turquoise Ink, then I stamped the image from "Upsy Daisy" in Pumpkin Pie. (PS-I tried stamping the image first, THEN making the background, it doesn't work!) My sentiment was clear embossed. I kept the rest of the card very simple because I really wanted my image to shine. My husband was so impressed with my card, he wants to bring it to work to keep on his desk! How sweet is he?

Thanks for the great challenge ladies :)

Here we go again!

The Spring CAS DT Search at SCS has started and I'm giving it another go. If at first you don't succeed...well, you know how it goes!
This is my entry for the first challenge, an inspiration, "Showers". Since I don't have any umbrella or rain boot stamps I needed to think a bit deeper. I could have gone with baby or wedding shower, but instead I was inspired by "April Showers, bring May Flowers"...and so my creation began :)
I used one of my absolutely favorite CAS sketches, it's one I turn to again and again! I kept the colors and embellies really soft and simple to show off the stamping. Distressing seems to be my favorite technique lately, I use it on just about every card!!!
Keep your fingers crossed that I make the first cut :)

CAS Background

Happy Monday :) Today I am one of the Guest Designers in the CAS Group at Splitcoast!! Yipee!! The challenge this week is a technique: Make your own background; one of my favorites :) I started by lining up the 3 chairs from "Have a Seat" on my grid paper and picking them up on my acrylic block. Then, I repeatedly stamped the images in Crumb Cake ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. I rounded the upper right corner and added some ink to the edges with my dauber.

I have been loving the look of layered punches. So, I did a lot of that here. Using the Decorative Label Punch, I punched out a Crumb Cake label and stamped it using the polka dot stamp from "For All You Do". I used the same stamp, but the short end, to punch out the "miss you". Lastly, I used my Oval punch and layered that behind the sentiment!!! The top layers are popped up on dimensionals. This was definitely a fun one to make. I love how detailed a CAS card can be without getting over-embellished!!!

Hi there, Long time no see! I have to apologize for my lack of posting. I have been very sick, pretty much down for the count for the past couple of days with an upper respiratory infection. Yuck!! I finally have enough energy to sit at the computer and post a card today. As long as I'm sitting still, I feel pretty good :)

Conner's 8th Birthday

My "baby" Conner turned 8 today, at 7:04 am to be exact ;) I can't believe it!!! It's been an amazing road watching him grow into the smart, sensitive, sweet boy he is today. He has a wild imagination that he acts out daily, he seems to slip into his mind and becomes all different characters. Perhaps he'll be a writer :) I also refer to Conner as my "old soul", his feelings go deeper than any adult I know. He shows compassion and kindness I find uncommon in children his age. I couldn't be more proud of him!

Here's the birthday boy. Being a typical 8 year old!!!
Happy Birthday Conner!!!

Remember When...

Ah, I remember lazy days as a newlywed, watching movies & going out to dinner, sleeping in and reading the paper while I sipped coffee...those days are long gone, LOL!!!! My head is spinning, so much to do. It's a busy week at school with Valentine's Day and Conferences. I also volunteer in the Kindergarten class & there are 2 half days this week. Conner tells me this morning, "Oh Mommy, I want just one more thing for my birthday"...REALLY!
I'm sure I've mentioned before that I live in the middle of no where! Our local stores (within a half hour) were out of his gift of choice and Conner's birthday is on Thursday. So, tomorrow, I am going to have to fit in a trip to the mall (NJ or NY, both an hour each way) along with a teachers conference and Kindergarten centers...Mama Mia!
So today I am posting a card to remind me of those quiet days. Although they were fun, I wouldn't trade all of this craziness for the world!

I'm back this morning with what I am calling a "Cute CASE"...I'm playing along with the challenges at CASE Study and Cute Card Thursday. Since Valentine's day is right around the corner, I figured that I better make just a couple more cards for the occasion! I'm loving this unique color combo for Valentine's Day...what do you think? I think I should be using this duo more often! The Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip off set the bright colors JUST enough to make it work perfectly!!! After talking about crumb Cake & Chocolate Chip, I'm getting hungry, LOL ;)

Over the past year or so, I have gone from scrapbooker to card maker. I'm not sure how it happened, it just did! I think it's partially a time thing. I can make a card, photograph it and post it here on my blog in an hour or less. Where as, with scrapbooking, a layout can sit on my desk for a day, sometimes multiple days. It's also harder, when trying to go back and forth between stamping and scrapping too. I have gotten into a groove with my cards. I love stamping, using a variety of images and the satisfaction of getting it done in a short period of time!!! So, my scrapbooking has been put on the back shelf...Until now!

I spent the better part of Sunday working on a project with Conner for school. He has to make a timeline of his life. Out came the scrapbooks, we spend hours laughing at the silly things the boys did as baby's and crying at some of the sad things too. I am so happy that I have documented all of these milestones and moments. I have written our story...and I NEED to keep doing it!! I got that itch to scrap again, boy it's been a LONG time. I started with a CAS (well, there's a surprise, LOL!) layout using some pictures I took this fall for our Christmas cards. I was able to incorporate some stamping too, which really excited me! I layered punches, used buttons and added a spritz of log cabin smooch in the upper and lower corners. I'm thrilled with the outcome.

What do you think of my first layout since May of 2010? (I did one for Xmas for my Mom, but it was almost a complete CASE from the Holiday Mini!)

Ink: Chocolate Chip & Crumb Cake (for distressing)

Ahhh, today is the day!!! I'm the Guest Designer for the CAS Challenge at SCS! I'm giddy :)
The challenge this week is Color: Poppy Parade, Peach Parfait, Daffodil Delight & White. I must admit, I had to take a very deep breath when I saw this...if you know me, this isn't my "normal" color palette. This was most definitely a challenge!!!

I started by stamping and heat embossing the largest floral image from "Growing Green" in each color. Once they were trimmed out, I adhered the Daffodil flower directly to the Whisper White base. Then I added a dimensional to the back of the Peach Parfait flower & two dimensionals to the Poppy flower...this really gives the card some extra visual interest! I kept my embellishments very limited, as I wanted those flowers to be THE focal point !!

What do you think? Should I add this color combo to my bag of tricks?

CAS Easter Blossoms

It's Sunday morning and that means it's time for another CAS Challenge at The Outlawz! This week it's a color challenge: Pink, White & Brown. I SO love these colors together.
Using the large blossom image from Easter Blossoms, I was able to create a stand out thank you card, without a whole lot of fuss!! Although it's hard to see in this photo, I used the 2-way glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds to add just a little bit of sparkle to this beautiful card. I also went with a different sized card than the normal A2 size. I started with a 6 x 6 piece of Pretty Pink Cardstock and scored it at 3 inches, making the finished card 3 x 6 in.

Today is also Superbowl Sunday!!! Are you doing anything special? My boys are very excited for the game. We are routing for the Green Bay Packers!! Seems funny, since we live in PA...our good friends lived in WI for a number of years and the Packers are their, we're hoping they get the win today :)

Clean & Simple

Hi again!

This is my second post for today, can you believe it? Scroll down to see my Family Time post.

I'm playing along with the Clean & Simple Sketch (FTL126). I am always so inspired by their challenges. I used my Bliss set, FREE, during Sale-a-bration! Crazy, right? Today, I tried my hand at collage stamping. It was fun and I think this set was just made for it! The butterflies were stamped in Early Espresso ink, stamped off on my scrap paper then rolled in the ink again. I like the look I achieved by doing that! Had I left the butterfly completely inked in Early Espresso ink, it would have been way to dark.

Thanks for spending some time here with me today. Have a fabulous weekend!

Family Time Friday (delayed)

Hmm, I'm not sure what happened? Yesterday just seemed to have gotten away from me. So, here it is Saturday and I'm just getting to post my Family Time Friday...

Some of my Pictures of the Day (POTD) from this week...

Elmo has become a bit of a companion for Ethan. Not only did he get to watch Garfield with Ethan this week, he had a lesson at the chalkboard with him last week. Elmo is also sometimes his dance partner or his opponent in a boxing match!

Snow day! We're up to 7 total since the first week of January. Add that to the numerous delays & 1 early dismissal and we're talking about A LOT of time at home!! The boys spent over an hour playing outside one day this week and had a blast...before the ice arrived that is!

Books! We love them! This is our current reading list...(from top to bottom)
1. Dinosaur Cove - Attack of the Tyrannosaurus
Ethan and I are reading this book together. Ethan's reading skills have just taken off and I can't seem to find a book that is challenging enough for him! Smarty Pants!
2. The Bobbsey Twins & the Seashore
Conner & Doug are reading this one. Doug grew up reading this series & has been waiting to share it with Conner. Conner is ready and they are enjoying sharing this together!
3. Astonishing Splashes of Color by Clare Morrall
This one is mine :) It's a fairly quick read, enjoyable & sad... as I am taken along on a journey through "Kitty's" life. This came to me through my sister, she keeps my reading pile stacked pretty high! I always know I'll love any book she recommends!
4. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
As much as Doug has been waiting for Conner to read the Bobbsey Twins, I've been waiting for him to read Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. They were my favorite growing up!!! However, it's not Conner who's reading this, it's me! Conner already read it in school and we decided to read the "Fudge" books together. So, I took this one out of the library so I could catch up to him and then we can start Fudge together.
5. Beowulf's Children byLarry Niv, Jerry Pournelle & Steven Barnes
Doug often receives gift cards to Barnes & Noble from his students during the holiday's, this year was no different! A while back Doug read this book, as well as the first in this series "The Legacy of Heorot"(there's only 2 books, is it still a series?) back in the day. He purchased the two books together, to read back-to-back! He seems to be enjoying them. He loves stories of survival with a bit of a Sci-Fi twist. I don't know that it's my cup of tea, but he is loving it!

Izzy, enjoying the first rays of sunlight we've seen in quite some time!

Wow, that was a long post...congrats if you actually read it to the end! I'd love to hear your book recommendations, if you have any :)

Have a great day!

Thank you kindly

Hi there blogging friends! Today I am sharing with you another card using Nature Walk!!! I have a feeling I should just leave it on my desk for a while :) I was inspired by CASE Study and their February Muse...I started the card out a bit more colorful and in the end decided to keep it neutral. This card is perfect for a male or female, don't ya think?
I'm keeping it short & sweet today. I hope the sun is shining wherever you are, it's a beautiful thing!!

Springtime Nature Walk

(Click photo to see details)

How I am longing to go on a nature walk...

You are probably getting tired of my weather reports here on my blog, to tell you the truth...I am too!!! Two snow days again this week and I think I may start bouncing off the walls soon!! Luckily for me, Mr. Brown delivers rain, sleet or snow, so I received a SU! package full of brand spankin' new stamps yesterday afternoon!!

I was inspired this morning by the challenges at Color Throwdown & ABC Challenges. I knew I wanted to use Nature Walk, but didn't really have a plan as to what I wanted to do. With 2 little rugrats (& a big one too :) I knew whatever I did in my stamp room today had to be I just started stamping. With this set, you don't really need to be precise...I just stamped, what ever and where ever it looked like I needed something. It was fun to just be CREATIVE!

I hope you get some time to create today too! Thanks for stopping by!
