SCS Challenges

We just returned home from a few days away and I've been itching to play with my stamps. I jumped over to Splitcoast and used their color combo (CC328) & the sketch (SC338).

I started by cutting two circles with my Circle Scissors Plus (2 & 2 1/4 inches), then stamped a chair from the Have a Seat set in Early Espresso ink. Using Cherry Cobbler ink, I stamped the heart image from Tiny Tags. Using Sticky Strip, I adhered the doily to my card base and then wrapped it with Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine. I popped the image up on dimensionals and added a tag & bow to a button from my stash. As a finishing touch, I sponged the edges of my card base.

I hope you are having a wonderful start to your summer! I hope to be back again soon. You'll have to bare with me as I have a lot less time now that the boys are home for the summer, hopefully I'll find my groove and find time to post here semi-regularly!!!

Thanks for visiting!

Where inspiration comes from

I am inspired daily by different things. Sometimes it's a challenge or card I've come across while blog hopping, other times it's a color combination that I've seen in a store display. I've been inspired by magazines, photographs & nature. Inspiration is all around us.

Sometimes I feel like I create cards that are similar, in color palette's, style or layouts. When I scroll through my blog and see a lot of the same, that's when I search from something new. And, that is where my card today comes from! I thought it would be fun to share my thought process of coming up with ideas for my cards.

I was watching a video on StampNation about making your own colored embossing powder (I had no idea you could do that), and Catherine uses the color combo you see on my card above. I just loved it: Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Soft Suede & Crumb Cake. Her card sample also uses a ton of sponging!! I was inspired...I filed this idea away and knew I'd be using it soon. The next time I logged into StampNation Catherine had posted one of her Go-to Layouts & ding, the proverbial lightbulb went off and ah-ha, I knew exactly what I would create.

Where does your inspiration come from? If you are looking for inspiration, may I suggest joining StampNation? First Day of School?

More and more I find myself wanting to scrap! I've done 4 layouts this year. No, that's not a ton but it is double what I did last year, so I'm improving!

Obviously, I do not scrap in order. Usually, I go through my pictures looking for something that gets my creative juices flowing. I love these sweet pictures of the kids on their first day of school, the anticipation & excitement of a new school year. I pulled the colors for my layout from the clothes the kids are wearing...the blues from Conner's shirt & the Green from Ethan's shirt. I wanted a pop of color and decided on red, the strap of Ethan's backpack!

Choosing colors from your photos to use on your layout will give you a more cohesive look in the end!

Family post

It's been a while since I've shared family photos, so I thought that is what I'd do today. We had a wonderful family hike yesterday in celebration of Father's Day. We went to one of our favorite local parks! The kids picked the trail, we took our time and we saw lots of wildlife!

Doug & the boys at the beginning of the trail.

I love this shot. In Daddy's footsteps!

One of the ponds we hiked around.

The boys on a fallen tree.

Ah, breathtaking!

Dad's & Grad's

The CAS Challenge at The Outlawz has just been posted. Since today we celebrate Dad's, we can't forget about those grad's. The challenge is to make a graduation card!

I went neutral with my graduation card. I used Basic Black cardstock for my card base and a
1 1/4 inch strip of Sahara Sand cardstock. Using my paper piercer & mat pack, I pierced the strip and used my black marker to create a faux stitch. The sentiment, from Word Play, is popped up on dimensionals. I used 3 along the bottom and 2 in the top corners, leaving a pocket to add money :) What grad doesn't want (need) money?!

I hope you'll join us! The challenges are open all month long, so if you are busy today for Father's day, there is always tomorrow!!!

Have a great day, Maureen

Stamp: Word Play
Ink: Basic Black Classic Ink & marker
Paper: Basic Black, Sahara Sand & Whisper White
Accessories: Library Clip, Linen Thread, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Corner Rounder

More doilies!

I am loving these Delicate Doilies, new and available on July 1st!! I was actually dreaming about these doilies the other night... yes, it IS an illness. I also used some of the new In Colors: Lucky Limeade, Pool Party & Island Indigo. Loving this combination :)

I'm off and running this morning! It is that LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, yipppeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! We are having a surprise Pizza & Ice Cream Sundae party (just us, not a bash!) here tonight for the kids to celebrate, which means I have lots of prep to do before they get out at 12!!!!

Have a great day :)

Rock & Roll

The rock & roll technique was the first I ever learned. It's also one of my favorites. If you haven't heard of it, rock & roll consists of inking your image first in a lighter color and then rolling the edges of your image in a darker color. Images, like the fish I used, that aren't circular get a really neat effect!
Did you notice that I've used a NEW color? Pool Party, it's gorgeous right?! I am completely in love with it!!!! I paired it with Not Quite Navy to make this CAS Father's Day card.

Have you tried the rock & roll technique? Do you have a technique that you love? Share it with me, I love to learn :)

Simple Thanks

We've officially reached the last week of school here in the Merritt house! I thought that the boys would be jumping for joy this morning, but instead, they were just plain cranky :( I sure hope they aren't this cranky all summer, I might have to leave them outside for the bears...although I don't think the bears would want them either, LOL!

FYI- I am a very good & patient Mommy and I don't even let my kids play outside by themselves b/c of the bears, just sayin'. Moving on...

This time of year comes with lots of thank you cards! Using the SCS CAS Sketch (CAS123) I made another thank you card to add to my pile. What a great sketch to work with!! I started with a 3 x 3 square of Lap of Luxury dsp and cut it into 1 inch squares. I cut another piece from the same dsp pack for my mat (approx 3 1/4 x 3 1/4). The 1 inch squares were popped up on dimensionals. Using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit, I made a Pink Pirouette & Very Vanilla butterfly layered the smaller on top of the larger butterfly and added a large Basic Pearl. I finished off my card with a sentiment from Fabulous Phrases and a strip of Basic Pearls!

Try using this week's sketch and put your own twist on it. Instead of using a 3 x 3 square of dsp, using 1 inch squares in all different designs, replace the squares with circles or hearts or make a quilted pattern! I can't wait to see your creation in the gallery!!

Stamps: Fabulous Phrases
Ink: Elegant Eggplant
Paper: Very Vanilla, Lap of Luxury dsp
Accessories: Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Basic Pearls

Paper Crafts Gallery Idol!

Once again, Paper Crafts is holding auditions for their version of American Idol...Gallery Idol!
I had to submit at least one card (probably a few more to come) and give it a whirl this time around. The theme is "Congratulations" which leaves the field WIDE open!

I decided on a clean & simple masculine card...

I started by stamping A to Z in Crumb Cake Ink and my sentiment in Early Espresso. Then I stamped and clear embossed the leaf image. Next, I sponged Old Olive ink over the image. I finished off the card with a simple button tied up with Linen Thread.

Are you going to try out this year? Did you know the grand prize winner will set sail aboard the Paper Crafts Cruise!?! Come on, it's a no brainer :)

I hope you have a fabulous weekend! Happy Stamping!

Imagine the Possibilities...

With some stamps and ink, you can do just about anything you set your mind to! The possibilities are endless! Now, I don't know that this sentiment is REALLY talking about stamping, but I am.

This weeks CASE Study was too beautiful to pass up! I was immediately drawn to the background and colors. So...I set off into my stamp room positive that I could make something just as beautiful ;)

I knew I wanted to try the Emboss Resist Technique. I've done it before just not very well!

I started by stamping my focal image in Versamark ink and heat embossing it with clear embossing powder.

Next, I started sponging with Bashful blue ink through the center of the stamp (Notice how the embossed image RESISTS the ink, hence the name Emboss Resist!) I keep my sponge moving in a circular motion. Then I moved to Tempting Turquoise ink and finally Old Olive. As I moved closer to the outside I used more ink.

I wanted to add a bit more interest, so with Early Espresso ink I inked and stamped off the script stamp from Strength & Hope. I did this around the exterior of the cardstock. Then I sponged the edges with Early Espresso ink.

Finally I finished off my card with my sentiment from Word Play, some linen thread and a neutral button!

What do you think? Have you used the Emboss Resist Technique in a fun and different way? I'd love if you shared it here with me!
