My Favorite Destination

Ever feel like you are in a creative rut, like your cards are all starting to look the same?  That's just about where I am right now.  I made a stack of cards last night and when I flipped through them I thought, "huh, they all look the same".  I definitely have my favorite layouts and color combos, but it feels like it's time to try something new.  At times like these, I almost always turn to sketches.
I used the sketch from the NEW Fusion challenge and a new to me color combo.  I initially reached for Kraft ink but then I saw Fine Linen, an ink I rarely use, and thought why not?!

I was going for a masculine Valentine's Day card and I think I pulled it off.  It's a bit on the softer side of masculine, but it works.

What do you do when you feel yourself slipping into a creative rut?  I'd love if you left me a comment and let me know!

Stamps:  Love Notes (Avery Elle)
Ink:  Fine Linen, True Black (PTI) Real Red (SU)
Paper:  Whisper White, Basic Black (SU), Fine Linen (PTI)
Accessories:  Scoring Board  (SU) Score lines are hard to see in this pic), Rhinestones (Martha)

You knocked the Fusion sketch out of the park Maureen! I'm so glad you could play along. I tend to go to a sketch or to Pinterest cards that I've pinned. I like to look for color combos I wouldn't normally use.

I agree with Lynn! Home run on this one...love the globes in place of the circles, the great sentiment and I totally know what you mean about our cards sometimes looking all the same. Great card for the first Fusion challenge of 2014!

I look at Interest, magazines, sketches, previous cards, scrapbook pages, mini books and window shop. When I window shop I look at the designs on clothing, and patterns on other items too! Your work never seems tired or boring so don't give it another thought!

The first place I go is to my old, old unblogged cards to see if I can take the card and make it beautiful. If that doesn't work, I head to pinterest.
Your card is fantastic. Love the Fine Linen color. It's definitely a wonderful, soft, masculine card. All the colors and textures work well together. Great card. Bev

Such a cool card, Maureen! You definitely pulled off masculine, so well! I love Fine Linen, it's one of my favourite colours, although I don't use it much either! I'm so glad you decided to bust out of your rut and join us at Fusion! (Although, I am quite a fan of everything you do regardless). :-) When I'm in a creative rut, I usually turn to a challenge and push myself to try a new technique, a different style, or colours I wouldn't normally use.
