Some of My Favorite Things from 2014

Wrapping up 2014 with one more blog post!

Today I'm sharing my top 5 favorite cards of 2014, by other card makers.
And, my favorite products released this year.

First, the cards...

There's just something about this card.  I've tried to CASE it several times but I can't seem to do it justice.  I love the soft colors, vellum and gold.

I remember the exact moment I saw this card at CASE Study, my jaw just about hit my keyboard!

Something about this card just grabs me!
It makes me happy every time I see it.

This card leaves me absolutely speechless. No words...

Everything Jill does is amazing, she's a true artist.  But this set...WOW!

Looking at them all together, I guess I'm into the watercolor look right now!

Looking Back at 2014 - Day Two

Today we look back at the second half of 2014...

July
Loving this color combo and the ever popular Seriously Word Die.

August
August was the month that my blog saw the most amount of posts, 31 in all!
Funny, since this is the only month of the year that my entire family is home.

I love the softness of the pink and vellum with the contrast of the black here.

September
While Fall is my favorite season, I don't do a lot of seasonal cards this time of year.
Come September it's all about Christmas.

This bunny from Lawn Fawn stole my heart this year!

October
The Stag Trio is one of my favorites from the releases this year.

I love the simplicity of this card!

November
In November my blog saw the least amount of posts, 12.  I'd lightened my design team load by this time in the year and it shows on my blog.  I hope to get into a regular posting schedule in the new year.

I love the addition of patterned paper to the card base here.

December
In December I joined the Penny Black Simplicity Sisters! yay!

There you have it, a look back at a year of cards!

I'll be back with some of my favorites from around blogland,
as well as some of my favorite products of 2014!!

Looking Back at 2014 - Day One

At the end of each year I like to look back at my blog and highlight some of my favorite cards of the year.  This has been a very exciting year for me with design work.   I can't believe I design for my favorite companies!  It's really a dream come true.

Today I'm looking back at the first half of the year...

January
January was an exciting month!  The new Pretty Pink Posh site launched and I was announced as a designer for Lil' Inker Designs!
This is still one of my favorite Christmas cards that I made this year!

February
In February we launched our second class, Basics & Beyond!

This year I've used a lot of patterned paper to line my card front.
I love the mix of colors and patterns on this card.

March
In March, another dream came true.  I joined the WPlus9 Design Team.
I also designed for the launch of Clearly Whimy Stamps!

Another bright and colorful card, exactly what I love in the middle of Winter!

April
In April we launched another class, Cards for Him.

This card became a gift set.  Then I used this same design and changed up the colors to make another gift set.

May
StampNation joined forces with Penny Black in May and I was a guest designer over on the Penny Black blog.  The card I made for that feature was another of my favorites for the year.  You can see that here.

Are you seeing a theme with my favorites?
Yes, I love floral stamp sets.  One can never have too many :)
This is a different color scheme for me, I think that's why it stands out.

June
In June I launched my Pin-spired series, which I miserably failed on, haha!  Maybe I will start it up again in the new year.  I think I only made it to Pin-spired 5.

Paulina from Pretty Pink Posh launched her first dies in June!

And I posted my first and only video of the year. You can view it here.

Two favorites for June...

Thanks for taking a look back at 2014 with me.
I'll be back tomorrow with the second half of the year!

Handmade Ornaments

{Izzy 2000}

Merry Christmas Eve!  I can't believe the big day is just about here :)

I wanted to share the ornaments I made for my tree this year.  I've been wanting to add photos to my tree for quite some time, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in a way that they'd be preserved year after year.  UNTIL I saw photos on wood slices on Pinterest.  I'm not a crafter, outside of cards of course, but these were super simple!

I purchased Wood Tags from this shop on Etsy.  You can also buy wood slices at Michaels or stores similar to that and drill holes in the top of them.  I printed all of my photos in black and white and cut them to fit my tags.  I adhered them to the wood with Mod Podge, then added two more layers of Mod Podge to the top of each ornament.

{My Dad in the 60's}

I have almost all of our family represented, some of the photos didn't work so I have a few more to do.  Me and Doug, my Mom, siblings, our grandparents etc.  It's like having all of our family with us!  I love that!

Did you make an holiday decor this year?  I'd love to see it if you did!

Merry Christmas!

Hooray!

A card like this one can be given for so many occasions...a birthday, a new job, a promotion, a new home, I'm proud of you, You did it.   There are so many reasons to say, "Hooray"!

This card was a blast to make, I combined quite a few techniques but still kept my design ultra-CAS!

To make this card I first cut white cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4.  Then I masked that piece off at 3/4 of an inch on all sides.  I placed the Dotlets stencil over the masked area and pressed my Versamark Pad into the circles.  I covered that with white embossing powder and heat set.

Next I used Distress Inks to add the background color.  The embossed areas resist the ink and you get a really fun, "How did you do that?" look!

Since my masked, emboss resist piece is the focal point, I didn't want to do much else to my card.  I die cut "Hooray" 5 times, once from white card stock and four times from black.  These were layered together and adhered with liquid glue.  The black behind the white helps make the sentiment really pop.  A scattering of sequins just adds to the celebratory feel of this design.

Penny Black Products Used:
Dotlets #25-007
Hooray #51-038

Last Minute Gift Tags

I'm up over at the WPlus9 Design blog today.

While wrapping Christmas gifts I discovered that I never purchased gift tags.
What's a paper crafter to do?  Make them of course!

Christmas Cards for Kids

Every once in a while I come across a story that moves me, many involve children.  This week while browsing Facebook I came across a story about Addy.  Addy, a six year old with a brain atrophy is most likely celebrating her last Christmas this year.  She loves to get cards, especially homemade cards so her family has asked for a "lifetime of Christmas cards" for her.

I found this adorable card in my stash that I think is perfect for Addy.

Fast forward a few days and I came across Lauren's story.  Lauren is a three years old that is fighting childhood Leukemia.  She is responding to treatment and is currently in remission.  There was a card drive earlier in the year for Lauren that I didn't hear about BUT she loved receiving cards so much that she's asking for Christmas cards :)  I found another penguin card in my stash that I'll be sending off to Lauren.  I hope it makes her smile!

If you'd like to send cards to Addy & Lauren I have posted their addresses are below.  And, if you happen to know of other children, families, causes in which I can send cards, please leave me a comment below.

*Edited to Add...A comment left below linked me to a FB group that gives names and addresses of children to send cards to.  If your looking to brighten a child's day, follow Kare Mail 4 Kids.

Thanks so much for stopping by, have a great weekend!

*Addy and her sisters also just lost their dad unexpectedly :(
Please include them in Addy's Christmas card.

Lil' Inker Designs December Release - Day 3

It's the last day of the Lil' Inker Design Team Blog Hops.  If you haven't checked out the new release make sure you do so, everything is available now in the Lil' Inker Store

You should have arrived here from Mary Dawn Quirindongo's Blog.  If not, head to the Lil' Inker Store Blog to start from the beginning.

I have one last card to share with you today.  A little old and a little new on this one.  Introducing Alphabet Gems.

These little Alphabet Gems are so darn cute.  I simply colored them in with Copics, straight coloring, no blending.  I also colored over the letters with Wink of Stella, so the letters are really sparkly in real life.  I had all intentions of using the new Awesome Word Die but I didn't leave myself enough room.  So instead I used Seriously Awesome set.  This fun and playful card can be used for just about anyone, for any occasion!  It's nice to have cards like that in your stash!

Time to keep hopping along now.  Next up is Sarah Jay, so head over to her blog because you know she'll have something AMAZING to show you.  Make sure to leave comments along the way too, because Laura is giving away 3 - $15 Store Credits!

I hope you've enjoyed my release projects!  I'm excited to start seeing some of these products popping up around blog land!

Lil' Inker December Release Blog Hop - Day 2

We are back with our second day of design team blog hops for the Lil' Inker Designs October release.  Have you seen all of the fabulous new products in the  Lil' Inker Store?  You must check it out!

You should have arrived here from Mary Dawn Quirindongo's Blog.  If not, head to the Lil' Inker Store Blog to start from the beginning.

My first card is uses All About Ampersands stamps & dies!

A watercolored background was the perfect technique to make the large ampersand frame shine!

I love making watercolored backgrounds like this.  To make this piece I brushed water over a piece of Distress Watercolor paper with a clean brush.  Then I dropped shades of blue, green and purple paint onto the paper.  I heat set it, then went back in with more water just to move the color a bit more, then heat it again.  The paper was pretty warped so I placed it under a few heavy books while I worked on the rest of my card.  Play with this technique and see how many different looks you can get!

My next card uses the Hello, Awesome stamp set, Awesome Word die and Anytime Tags 2.

I just love this Awesome die!!!  It HAD to be the focal point.

I combined all of these fun new products with the previously released Spring Flowers die set.

Time to keep hopping along now.  Next up is Sarah Jay, so head over to her blog because you know she'll have something AMAZING to show you.  Make sure to leave comments along the way too, because Laura is giving away 3 - $15 Store Credits!

See you tomorrow!

You should have arrived here from Mary Dawn Quirindongo's Blog.  If not, head to the Lil' Inker Store Blog to start from the beginning.

Today's first card features the Faceted Cover Up Die and All About Ampersands.

Is this design not brilliant?  Sarah Jay designed this die and hid a heart in the design!  Holy Smokes, I love this!!

This next card uses the Girl's Best Friend Stamp Set & Die and the Long & Skinny Rectangles.

What a fun set of products to play with!   Here I die cut three Long & Skinny Rectangles and adhered them to my card base.  I die cut the Girl's Best Friend die from Glimmer Paper then adhered that using liquid glue.  The stardust (not sure what that's called :) was heat embossed.   Lots of detail, yet still CAS!

Time to keep hopping along now.  Next up is Sarah Jay, so head over to her blog because you know she'll have something AMAZING to show you.  Make sure to leave comments along the way too, because Laura is giving away 3 - $15 Store Credits!

Tag You're It #12

*This is my second post today, please scroll down to view my WPlus9 Release post.

It's time for a new challenge over at Tag You're It!

I was inspired by Tracey's colors and playful placement!

I love the non-traditional colors on Tracey's tag.  I tend to be a traditional kind of girl when it comes to Christmas.  I had fun stepping outside my comfort zone.

Head over to Tag You're It! to see how the rest of the DT was inspired.  I hope to see you playing along.  Our challenges are open for two weeks, so you have plenty of time to play!

Happy Friday everyone :)

WPlus9 Release Day

It's here, the WPlus9 new release is available!

I have two last projects to share with you today featuring Sparkle & Shine.

I know I said I was moving a way from Christmas cards, but I couldn't resist pairing Sparkle & Shine with Snowflake Backdrops!

This shaker card was so much fun to make.  I started by cutting my frame using the Holiday Aperatures die set.  Then I stamped a white card base with snowflakes from Snowflake Backdrops in Lake House, Ocean Drive & Nautical Navy inks.  The dies were cut in Nautical Navy and glimmer paper, then layered and adhered.  I attached a clear sheet to the frame and added a mix of Clear Sparkling Sequins and the Snowflake mix, then added the frame.

My next card is uses the Sparkle & Shine set, but is a little closer to my normal style, a crisp clean OLC.

Again, my photography has not been great this week, sorry!  The sun seems to have forgotten where Northeastern Pennsylvania is.  On this card I have built a sentiment using both the stamps and dies.  I added some sequins and rhinestones for some extra sparkle and shine.

I hope you've enjoyed my projects this week, as well as the rest of the team!  Visit the WPlus9 Design Blog and Joni for more inspiration.

Then, shop 'til you drop at WPlus9!!!
