Gift Sets - Day 4

I'm a few days late on posting this.  I've been thoroughly enjoying having everyone off this week.  We've slept in, gone hiking, biking and to the movies.  It's been great.  Doug begins teaching at the Summer academy tomorrow, so it's somewhat back to reality :(

By the time I got to making this card set, I was fresh out of ideas but I still wanted to make something unique and beautiful.  I was heavily inspired by a card I made for this month's WPlus9 TBT challenge.  There's no reason why you can't go back to cards you've previously made to be inspired!  This set went to the Ethan's before school teacher, who also happens to be Ethan's best friend's Grandma.  She is so sweet and wonderful with the kids.  I thought this design was fitting for her.

I made 4 each of two different color combos.

I apparently didn't take pictures of these sets before I boxed them up?!  oh well!

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Gift Sets - Day 3

About half way through my card set making extravaganza I was lacking inspiration.  I headed over to my friend Catherine's blog to check out some of her KISS cards (Keep It Simple Stamper).  I love her KISS series and find myself CASEing those cards often.  I came across this set and then saw Marlene Bonetti, a StampNation member CASEing it and knew this would be the next set I made.

(Peacock Feathers & Dusty Concord Distress Ink)

I had a blast with the technique pieces and I love that each one is a little bit different.  To make that fun background I first stamped and heat embossed the backgrounds with white embossing powder.  Next I used distress inks and pressed them onto a large acrylic block, spritzed it with water and then dipped my embossed pieces into the ink.   Smooshing has become such a popular technique and I think this set is evidence of why!  The results are gorgeous every time!

(Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed & Peacock Feathers Distress Inks)

Once I was done Smooshing, I heat set each piece.   These pieces were very, very warped so I placed them under Doug's 1,500 page AP Physics book overnight.

(Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade & Mustard Seed Distress Inks)

I added a different greeting from Label Love by Altenew to each card and embellished them with star rhinestones.  This set is versatile and perfect for every occasion!

If you are ever lacking for inspiration and looking for a great place to get your mojo flowing, I highly recommend checking out Catherine's KISS series!

That's it from me today!  I'll be back tomorrow with another gift set!

Gift Sets - Day 2, Winners Announced & the Bonus is closing!

If you missed it yesterday, I'm posting the gift sets I made for teacher end of the years gifts all week long.  This card is perfect for mass producing because of it's simplicity and limited layers.  I find using simple techniques like Ghost Stamping are perfect too.  I worked in an assembly line for this one, die cutting first, then stamping with the white pigment ink first and stamping over that with the dye inks.  The sentiment was heat embossed.

I made two of this set and they went off to school with Conner.  He chose them for his two favorite teachers.  I love that my boys get excited about giving my cards out as gifts :)

Before I go I wanted to let you know that our winners for our In the Mood class have been chosen. TWO of the winners left comments on my blog, woohoo!  Click here to see if you are one of our winners!

Ethan's teacher is having her first baby next month, so I thought it was appropriate to make her a baby thank you set.  I remember when Conner was born I got an onslaught of gifts, she is going to need these!

Are you wondering what others think?

The Mood Boards themselves are a gold mine of inspiration. I’m certain I will be coming back to this class over and over!”  Joyce

To kick off the release of In the Mood, we have created a special Mood Board and blog hop.  Each of our designers, and some of our friends, have created a card based on this mood board.

You should have arrived here from Catherine Pooler's blog, if not head over there to start from the beginning.

Stunning, right?!  There are so many ways to be interpret this board!!

I drew inspiration from the Butterfly, colors and the watercolored flowers in the mood board.  I melded those three ideas into my design and let me tell you, I had a blast doing it!  I first stamped and white heat embossed this gorgeous butterfly from Flora & Fauna 2 by WPlus9 on watercolor paper.

If you haven't done this technique before, emboss multiple images so you can practice.

All of the watercoloring was done with Distress Inks.  I pressed Crushed Concord and Peacock Feathers ink onto an acrylic block and used that as my paint palette.  I painted the inside of the butterfly with clean water, then picked up a bit of ink on my paint brush and dropped it into the water.  The water moves the ink around.  Don't fuss with it too much, really let the water do all of the work!  I heat set the center before doing the outside of the wings the same way.  I love how Distress Inks react with water and blend to create variations in color.

The background was a simple color wash.  I painted just the center of the panel with clean water and dropped in both colors of ink.  While heat setting the colors combined and made fun watermarks.  Lastly I flicked some clean water over the color wash and then lifted it with a paper towel and splattered Crushed Concord Distress Ink with my paint brush.

It's time to start hopping along now!
  • There are 10 FREE class registrations hidden along the hop, so make sure you leave comments along the way.
