Quick & Easy Cards Reusing Your Old Designs

Do you feel like you have to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to create?  I think we put to much pressure on ourselves to create something unique each and every time we stamp.  Sometimes you just need to give yourself a break and take inspiration from other cards you've made.  That's exactly what I've done today.

The above card was inspired by a card I made back in April, a post where I talk about how to use patterned paper in CAS design.  You can view that post here.  I used the same layout, added more of the gorgeous Penny Black Painted Blooms patterned paper and took the design down to make this CAS card.   It looks completely different and unless I told you I CASEd myself I'm guessing you never would have guessed it!

Do yourself a favor, CASE yourself every once and again.  I bet you have a card that you've made recently that you absolutely love, maybe it's the layout, technique or color combo.  Use that as your jumping off point and half of the work is done for you!

Penny Black Products Used:
30-286 Heartfelt
30-162 Eloquence
80-009 Painted Blooms
51-136 Stitched Edges Die
51-010 Delicate Wings

We have a fun "Bubble" challenge going on this week at StampNation

I was "off" this week, but I'm stunned at how creative our design team is and I just had to share...

I'd love to see you play along with us, but you have to be a member to play!

I hope to see you there!

Later Alligator Tag

Sometimes you only have time to make a tag, and that is ok!  Tags are fun and they are great to have around to place on a gift bag, on a wrapped gift or even a card base if you are short on time and need a card quick!

I was playing with the Zig Clean Color markers for the first time a few weeks ago.  I like them a lot for techniques but I'm still practicing on the coloring part.  The Reverse Confetti Later Alligator set was the perfect set for me to practice on, not too intimidating and very forgiving :)  This set is so cute, it's hard to mess up!  Once I finished an image I was happy with, I simply added it to a tag cut with the Tag Me die.  Then I die cut some stars from the You Are A Star Confetti Cuts.  It's hard to see in the photo but I added a bit of Wonk of Stella to the cake, it's super sparkly in real life!

The next time you are short on time or trying out a new product or technique, consider making a tag instead of a card!!!

MFT Guest Blogger - Watercolored Scribble Roses

I'm back today with a post I have over on the MFT blog.

Whether stamped, die cut or colored, the Scribble Roses stamp set is just gorgeous.  My project today features these stunning images heat embossed and watercolored.

I began with a piece of watercolor card stock trimmed to 3 3/4 x 5 inches.  I prepped the paper with an anti-static tool then started placing the flowers on my card stock.  Once I had an arrangement that I was happy with, I picked up all of the stamps at once on the same acrylic block.  I inked them with Versamark ink and covered the stamped images with white embossing powder.  I did the same thing with the leaves, then I heat set all of the images at once.

Now, we get to have fun!  Using several Zig Markers, I scribbled randomly over the flowers and leaves, then I sprayed them with water.  Using a heat tool, I moved the water and color around.  How’s that for a simple watercolor technique?  I’m a CAS stamper, I don’t like to fuss with things that take too much time (or make too much of a mess).  If you are like me, you will love this technique.

To finished off the card, I added the watercolored panel to a card base using a lot of adhesive.  (The paper was quite warped, even after sitting under a heavy book).  I heat embossed a sentiment from the Thankful Leaves stamp set and added that that to the card using foam tape.  Lastly I added some sequins to finish off the design!

It's truly and honor to be a Guest Blogger for My Favorite Things.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my posts as much as I’ve enjoyed creating my projects for you!

Freshly Made Sketches #200!

*This is my 2nd post today.  Please scroll down to view my MFT guest blogger post!

I'm thrilled to be joining Freshly Made Sketches for their 200th challenge!
Wow, congrats ladies.  That is amazing!!!

Lil' Inker Designs is one of the sponsors and our DT is playing along.

I love how open to interpretation this sketch is!

I had so many ideas about how I should attack this sketch...I could have stamped along the vertical line or used two different patterned papers etc.  What I finally decided to do was to use the Border Builders die set for the top and line the card front with paper from the Ombre Stripes Paper Pad.  Next I die cut a bunch of flowers and leaves from the Awesome Blossoms die set, then stamped them all using the coordinating Awesome Blossoms stamp set.  I stamped the sentiment in black ink, then arranged the flowers to frame it.

I hope I'll see you playing along in the challenge!!  Head on over to Freshly Made Sketches to find out more about the challenge, sponsors and prizes!

MFT Guest Blogger - Masked & Stenciled OLC

I'm so excited to be a guest blogger over at My Favorite Things!!!  I had a blast creating with their products and I'm thrilled that I finally get to share them with you.

One layer cards are a struggle for many card makers, even for clean and simple stampers like myself.  If you keep a few tricks in your back pocket though you’ll be making one layer cards in no time at all!

My best advice is to think creatively.  “How can I add interest to a card without adding layers?”  Masking!  Masking is a great way to add interest without layers to a one layer card.  And that is exactly what I’ve done on my card today.

I began by masking off 3/4 of an inch on all sides of my card base.  Then I placed the Diagonal Stripes stencil over top of the masked area, so it’s almost double masked.  I used Distress inks to add color and what you are left with when all of the masking is removed is a bright and beautiful focal point.  Now all I had to do is to stamp my birthday sentiment and hearts from Written in Watercolor.  Simple accessories like twine and sequins are the perfect way to finish off a one layer card.

See, look at that.  Easy peasy!  The next time you are challenged (or challenge yourself) to make a one layer card you will be able to whip one up in no time at all.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Autumn Leaves, Inspiration & an App Update!

Have you noticed a few more Autumn cards sneaking into my blog lately?  It's definitely that time of year when card makers start designing with Fall in mind.  That's exactly what I've been doing, though I've struggled a bit and found myself in a rut using all of the same old color combos.  I was looking for inspiration when I found this in my planner...

This screamed Fall to me!  I veered from the colors slightly but I love the results I got with the WPlus9 PURE COLOR Dye Inks in Wild Mango, Gala Apple, Cockleshell and Blossomberry.  Once I had my color combo, I went to my CAS Autumn App and used some of the new cards there as inspiration!

Where do you go for inspiration when you are looking for ideas?  Do you spend TOO much time looking for new ideas?  If your answer is yes, then you need my FREE CAS Autumn App.  I've done all of the work for you!!  We've just updated it with four new cards (on top of the ones that were already there!)  Each card has step-by-step instructions and supplies that are linked directly to online stores for easy purchasing.  You can even visit my blog through the App.  You literally have tons of inspiration right at your fingertips!

Here's a peek...

If you downloaded it last year, make sure you've gotten the latest update.

WPlus9 August Release is Now Available

All of the wonderful WPlus9 products that we have been previewing this week are now available!  Head on over to WPlus9 and shop 'til you drop!

I still haven't shared all of my release projects yet!  I have another project for you today featuring the new Going Places stamp set.

When I first saw this set, I have to admit that I got a little bit nervous.  That's a lot of open space to color for a non-colorer.  So, what's one to do?

Stamp it, of course!  Using the Borders & Backgrounds 2 stamp set and the new Autumn Splendor PURE COLOR Dye Ink Collection I stamp the hot air balloon and basket.

I did just a bit of sponging with Lake House ink behind the hot air balloon to ground it.  Then I stamped the sentiment and added some die cut balloons.

If you are a non-colorer, think outside the box with some of the line stamp sets.  Not only can you stamp them, you can also paper piece them.  Kara had a great card on her blog this week using that technique.

I hope you are loving all of the release products as much as I do.  What are you adding to your cart?  I'll be back again with another card using Autumn Leaves!!!

Make sure you visit the WPlus9 Design Blog as well as Kara, Joni and Kelly for more release inspiration!!

WPlus9 August Release - Wish You Were Here, Starry Background Die

Hello, I'm back with another card for the WPlus9 August release.
I hope you've been enjoying the projects so far!

Today I'm featuring the Wish You Were Here stamp set and die, the Starry Background die and the Gift Card Layers die.

How cute are these little bunnies?!  As usual I couldn't resist stamping on the bunny's bottom :)

This was such a fun card to make!  I started by die cutting the Starry Background and sponging it with Peacock Feathers and Dusty Concord Distress inks.  Next I flicked water over the background and used a paper towel to soak up the excess water leaving watermarks on the background.  I cut a piece of Glimmer paper that is just a tad bit smaller then the Starry Background and adhered it behind the technique piece so that all of the stars are shimmery (I wish you could see that in my picture!).  The rest of my card is pretty straight forward, just some more die cutting and stamping.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I'll be back on Friday with another card using the WPlus9 August release.  Visit the WPlus9 Design Blog each day this week for more inspiration and for a chance to win some new product!  Stop by and visit KaraJoni and Kelly too!!

Lil' Inker Designs August Meetup

Hello!  After taking a month off from our Monthly Meetup Challenge, we are back!  Not only do we have a challenge we also have two other surprises in store for you!  It's Lil' Inker Designs 5th Birthday and we are celebrating.

First, SURPRISE...we have a new birthday stamp set releasing for the celebration!  Introducing Birthday Balloons Greeting & Dies.  These fun new stamps are available NOW!

The second surprise...what celebration wouldn't be complete without a sale?

20% off stamps and 15% off dies?!!!

Now, on to my project for today.  I created a little party scene...

Who wouldn't love a rainbow of presents for their birthday?!  I went with more of a girlie rainbow, but if you use red and a darker blue, this would be great for guys too.  After die cutting and stamping the presents, I added the Circle Banners die that was die cut from glimmer paper and some sequins to add to the party feel.  I finished with just two black strips of card stock to ground the whole design.

Now, Here's what you need to do to play along:
  • Make a new project or share something you've been working on featuring LID goodies!
  • Post this project to your blog or favorite gallery.
  • Link your project to our challenge by using the InLinkz tool beneath my signature below.

I sure hope that you will play along!

WPlus9 August Release - Autumn Leaves & Grateful Greetings

Today we kick of the WPlus9 August release!
We are a little bit late this month, but I promise that it'll be worth the wait.
We have new stamp sets, dies and 6 new ink colors!

My card today features the Autumn Leaves and Grateful Greetings stamp sets, as well as the Gift Card Layers die.

My husband and kids rarely get excited about my cards.  I get an "oh, that's nice" or "wow" or something every so often, but they all got REALLY about this one!  I'll have to remember that the next time I make them a card :)  I think it has something to do with us being a nature loving family and the technique!  I love the Shadow Stamping technique, especially when paired with nature inspired stamp sets.

To make my card I first die cut a piece of Kraft card stock with the new Gift Card Layers die.  Then I stamped the background using White Pigment Ink and heat set it to ensure that it was dry before I went in with Gala Red, Flamingo and Appletini inks.  I stamped a greeting from the new Grateful Greetings stamp set in Warm Wool inkon white card stock that as again cut using the Gift Card Layer die.

Autumn Leaves and Grateful Greetings are timeless, beautiful stamps that can be used any time of the year.  They are definitely a must-have for any stampers collection.

I'll be back on Wednesday with another card using the WPlus9 August release.  Visit the WPlus9 Design Blog each day this week for more inspiration and for a chance to win some new product!  Stop by and visit Kara & Joni too!!

Reverse Confetti Summer Fun Blog Hop

I'm thrilled to be joining along in the Summer Fun blog hop with Reverse Confetti.  Summer is my most favorite season of all.  For the hop I made a birthday tag.

I couldn't pass up using the Fabulous Flamingos stamp set for Summer fun!  They are one of my all time favorite animals.   Here I was going for a silhouette on the water at sunrise (or sunset).  What do you think, did I achieve that?

To make my tag, I die cut the largest of the tags from the Tag Me die set, once from white and another time from black card stock.  Then I sponged the background with Distress Inks and did my stamping.  I layered the tags, slightly offset and embellished the tag with sequins.  Now I have a tag ready to add to a gift bag or package!

Time to hop along now.  Make sure you visit all of the blog, leaving comments along the way.  There is a $15 gift certificate up for grabs!!!!

SOA In Bloom: Eva's Favorite Flowers

Yesterday was so exciting!  Catherine wound up opening up purchasing of the Stamp of Approval for a second time yesterday, making many, many people who missed out on the first run very happy.  It was like watching kids open presents on Christmas :)

Today I have another card using the Stamp of Approval Friendship Collection.  This card uses stamps that were designed by Winnie & Walter called In Bloom:  Eva's Favorite Flowers, based off of fabric that Catherine fell in love with!

This is such a fun floral stamp set, you all know how I LOVE floral stamp sets!!!  I stamped the entire background first with the colored flowers, then went in with the black accents and filled in the spaces.
I embossed my sentiment on black card stock and added it with foam tape to my card.  Lastly I added sequins from SOA to the centers of each flower.

I hope you got your hand on a box yesterday, I can't wait until the orders are received!!!

Head on over to Catherine's blog for more inspiration, as well as Kristie and Heather.

*Back to my regularly scheduled blog post ;)

I'm stopping in today to share another card that I made with the SOA collection.  My project uses no stamps and no ink!  What?

The Friendly Flowers Fri-Dies that you see here were designed exclusively for Stamp of Approval by Michelle Gross of CAS-ual Fridays Stamps.  They will be available for purchase in 2016.

I had a blast playing with these products.  I die cut the flowers from a variety of colored card stock and then assembled them.  To add interest and variety to the flowers, some were adhered with liquid glue while others were adhered with dimensionals.  My sentiment was die cut from black card stock, then adhered to a white layer.  The flowers were scattered across the panel as if they were falling from the top right to the bottom left.  I then layered the panel on Hawaiian Shores card stock and placed it on an Aqua Mist card base.  The final touch was some sequins and beads from the Bright White mix that is included in the box from Little Things by Lucy's Cards.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I have my fingers crossed that some you get your hands on the Stamp of Approval box!!!  Good luck!

Make sure you stop by Catherine's blog for more inspiration using the Stamp of Approval Friendship Collection.  As well as Laura, Laurel and Heather!

In addition to the SOA collection I used:
Paper:  Whisper White, Real Red, Pink Pirouette (SU)  Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse (PTI) Black (WPlus9)

Stamp of Approval Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stamp of Approval Blog Hop.  Today myself and some of my favorite designers are sharing cards using the Stamp of Approval collection!  The Stamp of Approval is an exclusive collection of stamps, dies and accessories hand picked by Catherine Pooler.  The products included in this collection will not be available to the general public until 2016, how exciting!

The Stamp of Approval collection will soon be released soon, very soon, TOMORROW in fact!!  By the looks of the Wait List, it's going to sell out quickly.  This is a limited collection that will only be available until they are sold out, so make sure that you are on the Wait List to be notified when it is available.  StampNation members that are on the Wait List will be notified first (a little perk of being a member!) then the rest of the Wait List will be contacted!

I've been creating with the Stamp of Approval box for the past couple of weeks and today I finally get to share one of my creations.

This is the Curtis Background stamp by CAS-ual Fridays.  It was inspired by wallpaper that Catherine saw in a hotel she stayed at recently.  Michelle took Catherine's inspiration and turned it into a stamp.  It's such a fun and unique background and it's versatile enough to use for any occasion.  Here I heat embossed it with white embossing powder and then sponged over it with Distress Inks.  This card is perfect for all of your friends, for any occasion or for no occasion at all!  What friend wouldn't love to hear that the are your friend, no matter what?!

It's time to start hopping along now!

Make sure to leave a comment on each because one lucky commenter will win a Stamp of Approval box.   The more times you comment, the more chances you will have of to win!

You've got until Friday at noon EST to get hose comments in. The winner will be announced on Catherine Pooler's blog!  Good luck and happy hopping!
